I have been interested in Linux for quit a while but never had the gonads to try it. Lurkers post on Linux DSL got my mouth watering is ther a torrent here somewhere I am not seeing? I find it hard to belive that with all the talent here that someone doesn't have it worked out.
I really would like to try that OS because I am also using a very old computer.

You can download DSL from www.damnsmalllinux.org/download.html for free, but donations are accepted. I don't remember the exact value, but it was a rather small fee to receive a minidisc vith DSL on it.
For old computers they adviced Xubuntu or Kubuntu, i also don't remember exactly, but you will find it in the notes when choosing the download.

I'd also recommend Ubuntu as a good starter. Some people in the Linux community aren't big fans of it but their help forums are first rate. Everytime I've run into a hiccup I've always found the answer over there already answered.

And unless your hardware is really new or unique it usually runs without any serious issues. It doesn't always go perfect but I have run into far less hardware issues with Ubuntu than with Vista 

I agree, Ubuntu is very easy to use
