can't get the screen shot's to save without installing another partition and installing freeware onto that partition. So in other words, don't have the time or space for it atm but I tired.

I can take the screen shot but then when I go to open the graphic program I have to install it in order to paste it so I can save it to a flash drive. The disk isn't a CD-RW I have it only on a CD-R. Which makes it impossible to change. If you'd like to open up PHLAK and let me know of another way I can do this then I am all ears as I am still learning how to use Linux.

lol - - - i tried for an hour after i finaly found the screenies folder. FAILED.   ::)  one thing i didn't try was saving to the CD - its not rw but i didn't finalize the session ... noticed phlak offered to save session when i quit, so i assume it saved to the CD? might've worked. guess i'm spoiled - evidently gnome makes things easy --- lol

nice set of tools there anyway. if i could only figure out how to navigate the system

I did the same thing basically and I'm a non Linux user normally. I was referred to this OS several years ago by a friend who got me started with torrents and I have tried using it on occasion when I've had a laptop available to me. There are a few help files and I think Sourceforge might have a few tutorials or discussion forums pertaining to PHLAK.

Not entirely certain what you are looking for but will take a stab at it.

Linux like Windows by itself doesn't do much on its own. Much like Windows however the Ubuntu distro (and many others) come packaged with software. Actually, quite a bit more than Windows.

Basically, you can do everything you are used to doing. When you install Ubuntu it is all ready and waiting to go. Media players/viewers, web applications, email, games, office productivity, p2p, etc... is all there.

Really the best way to see what it is like is to fire up a copy and just poke around. Many distros (including Ubuntu) have Live CDs which allow you to try the OS without affecting your system.

That way you can try it out with no risk. The only downside is it runs a much slower than if it had been installed.

Mandriva One 2010.0 with Gnome. The theme and icon pack can be found in gnome-look (SlicknesS-black and lack-white 2 Vista). The wallpaper and the skydome are from Google images.

   changed my head   ;D

new hardware is a dell 15" lcd @1024 x 768 to the left (found it at the town dump: the base was smashed but otherwise fine, a piece of velcro under a shelf and at top of display holds it vertical) and a benq led/lcd 24" @1920 x 1080

this, my current sloppy session

the OS is ArtistX 1.0, ubuntu based, gnome 2, very stable and reliable, it is the oldest and most revered os on my comp - i strogly recomend it!
[edit] CAUTION!: i love this os - it has tons of software! BUT the latest (1.2) version's installer is defective, do not use it unless installing on a new pc - as by default - and you can't change it - it will format all drives before installing
off topic, can anyone recomend a good 64 BIT non-debian based OS? the most recent versions of debian and its derivatives don't work with my new hardware!
